What you don't know about elevators WILL NOT hurt you. The tallest building in the world may not have the "tallest" elevators. Why, you may ask, well let me tell you. When installing an elevator in a tall building, there are a few factors that you may not have taken into consideration.

Top to bottom cost, how much will it cost to ensure safety from top to bottom? How tall do you wish your building to be? We can break it down into segments and build it that way.

We can split your high rise into three or four "sections", a low rise, a mid rise, a high rise, and a freight. We start with the "low rise", maybe the first 15 stories. We arrange them on one side of the building, preferably near the main entrance. Those cars take you up 15 stories.

How do we reconcile our views? Obviously, we argue with each other. We fight amongst ourselves, we point our superior finger at an inferior point of view. We jump all over a voice that has supported our point of view. We yell at each other, rather than lift the voice that we should all be speaking with.

We possibly should look to/at each other and get together, maybe we should agree to disagree. We have no voice, no single voice, that speaks for all of us. I'm not asking for one human being that would, or could, or should, speak for all of us.

I'm asking for multiple voices that can cut through crap; that might be able to herd the cats. Maybe we can accomplish the impossible, maybe we can come together, maybe we can get something done.

Sixty years ago today communist North Korean forces crossed into South Korea. The 38th Parallel had been established at the end of World War II as the dividing line between the People's Democratic Republic (Soviet) North and the Republic of Korea (U.S.) to the South.

On June 27, U.S. President Truman authorized the use of American land, sea, and air forces in Korea; a week later, the United Nations placed the forces of 15 other member nations under U.S. command, and Truman appointed Gen. Douglas MacArthur supreme commander.

An armistice agreement was signed July 27, 1953 ending the "conflict" that saw over 54,000 dead and 103,000 wounded U.S. soldiers. It is sometimes referred to as the "Forgotten War", and today I'd like to not forget it.

I wrote a diary the other night that wasn't a diary. Ho boy did the few commenters let me know that I broke the rules. It was late at night (midnight EST) and I was trying to do something to get out of my own head for a moment. I understand that this site is wholly and completely devoted to electing good people to serve the public good, and anything else should be shouted down.

Do animal picture diaries constitute an exception to the rules? I'm going to stop my pity party and try to lay out why I'm writing this tonight. As I said, I was trying to "get out of my own head" or distract myself for a moment and I thought a short, quick, meaningless post would help. That's not allowed, I understand that, and I should have realized that this wasn't the forum to alleviate my momentary lapse of stability.

Something that struck me funny was a Recommended Diary the next/same day that, without the Blockquote, would have been just a few words longer than mine. I don't pretend to be a good writer, I don't ask to be recommended, read my signature line, I write to please myself.

Apologies from the American People, we regret getting our water in your oil. We didn't mean to screw up your profits. We sincerely apologize to you, the Oil Industry, forever and always.

We will always bow to you, oil industry, because we NEED you! We must drive our cars, we must "need oil". Really, do we really need oil? Question everything, know nothing.

I'm unsure where I fall within my own personal Venn Diagram, environmental VS. anger at ____. Certainly I'm angry at any corporation who/that puts profit before people; or a government who continually fails to hold them accountable.

I'm also angry at my own feelings, why did I not protest before they decided that this was okay? Why didn't I demand that my government REGULATE the oil industry? Why is regulation such a bad thing? Is O.S.H.A. involved in my Venn Diagram, after all, they are responsible for workers' safety. 11 people died.

When does it end, when do people matter more than the planet that gives us all life? When indifference meets uncertainty we fail each other, we fail to take care of "the least among us".

My "blank" might be all humans on this planet.

I seem to be clinging too tightly to my beliefs lately. The belief that we take care of each other has especially slipped everyone's mind. We care nothing about each other, we are more inclined to disparage each other, than take care of one another.

Electing "good" candidates is not all that this community has stood for. We are better than that, we do more than that. I'd like to think that those who reside here actually care about one another. We do more than "elect" people.
We have concern for our fellow human beings, all shape, size, and color.

This is not about elections anymore, it's about people, everyday people. Those of us who might not have had a voice without this site. We appreciate the opportunity to express our feelings and also understand our obligation to provide support.

My thanks upon the anniversary...

Wow, I mean wow! We, all Flyers fans, aren't supposed to be here. We shouldn't have beaten the Devils in the 1st round. We surely shouldn't have beaten the Boston Bruins in the second round. The monster Montreal squad was supposed to dispatch us quite quickly!

Yet here we are, in the Stanley Cup Finals! Facing a great Chicago squad with the silver Chalice in sight.

Lord Stanley's Cup: the ultimate goal.

What have we gotten ourselves into? Damn, the Flyers have no chance against the Chicago team. We absolutely, cannot beat them. They are better, stronger, faster, than we are. I can't see any way that my team can beat their team.

This site has become more than who is elected, or who is up for election, or who we want elected. This site has BECOME a community; one of caring and decent people. A place where politics, pooties, people and panacea can exist in harmony.

I've written some crap lately, more intoxicated than I'd like to have been, about sports. Last night I scribbled out a tidbit combining my favorite sports teams' accomplishment with my nephew's surgery. I even included the fact that I voted for "X" candidate, the result was pitiful.

Not that I expected much more, but all elections all the time makes Jack a dull boy. I'm not asking anyone for anything, but a quick perusal of something non-political now and again might embiggin' your day.

I know, I know, everyone's tired of hearing how great the Philadelphia Flyers are playing right now. Not me, I'm drunk with pure unadulterated, joy, and a few Michelobs™! No team has scored a goal against the Broad Street Bullies since Boston scored their third goal of game 7, last series.

EPIC comeback, pure dominance since then. 13 unanswered goals over three games, two shut outs. 165 minutes; 50 seconds since a goal has been scored against my 'boys. Congrats to Michael Leighton (our goalie), outstanding concentration, great positioning, solid goaltending. Three stars!

This is special, sports records lots of stats, the Philadelphia Flyers are rewriting some of those statistics with this playoff run. Win or lose, this is special. I certainly don't expect a cakewalk this round against a resilient Montreal squad, they can embarrass any team in a heartbeat, I'm not taking them lightly.

I read a front page post today aboot MY Liberty Bell. Great read, not aboot ice hockey. I forgive you your trespasses against evil, but I'll give 'ya a good read.

Liberty and justice for all, not withstanding; the local Ice Hockey Team is doing very well. We, who shall remain nameless (the "Broad Street Bullies"), would like everyone in the known universe to know that we are serious.

Game 1; final score 6 - 0! What else do we need to do to get your attention?
